82 December Journal Prompts for Writing Ideas at Christmas.

82 December Journal Prompts for Christmas Writing Ideas.

This post was updated October 7th 2023

Christmas has landed and with it a truck load of fun, chaos and busyness.

As a homeschool momma, I find it even more important to find moments of calm throughout the holiday season. Journal writing is a simple way to infuse a little quiet time into the day, for myself, and for the kids, too.

I bought my boys their first journal this year and after some initial doubts, they are enjoying using them now. Especially useful if you have a reluctant young writer like me. We love using them to record story starters.

We are all big fans of making up stories and the month of December is a smorgasbord of story ideas. Who knew Santa Claus could feature in so many stories with space themes or monster trucks? My kids.

I have compiled a huge 73 December writing prompts for you to dig into.

Whether you are teaching first grade students, a homeschool parent like myself or wanting prompts for your own personal use after a long day, I have you covered.

My Christmas gift to you. Enjoy them.

Post: 179 Affirmations for Letting Go.

How to use Journal Prompts.

When you feel the need to do some journal writing, just pick one prompt idea and get writing. I quite like randomly picking one, without too much thought.

It’s nice to create a ritual around journal writing, especially at Christmas. I like to write for a few moments after my morning meditation, when my head is clear. I get some of my best ideas at this time.

Then I do a quick scribble last thing at night, to get it out of my head before sleep.

How can you make journaling fun?

Journaling tip: Go with the flow.

Some days I love to write and the kids want to get involved too, other days they are not interested. I never force it. Thatโ€™s the quickest way to ensure they lose interest in journalling. On those days, just leave it or maybe do something creative like decorate your journal cover.

Big Life Journal has some great journals and pintables as well, designed with children in mind.

The good thing about journal writing is you can pick it up whenever you feel the urge to write. It’s a great self-care activity to model for your kids too. So indulge in a little journal time.

Do you prefer daily writing prompts or do you like free writing?

I have been quite creative with these prompt ideas, so hopefully you can find something that suits you. If there are any Christmas writing prompts I have missed out, add your ideas below.

May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve.

But if youโ€™ll have more post like this one, I wonโ€™t have that problem anymore! Thanks a million!
