How To Make A Vision Board For Manifestation in 5 Simple Steps (+ extra tip).

Vision boards rock. They take your dreams, goals and ideas and showcase them in a way to keep your attention focused on that outcome.
โAsk for what you want and be prepared to get itโ.

Thereโs no magic required.
Manifestation vision boards work because of intention, belief and consistent action towards your goal. Or as Jenna Kutcher so brilliantly puts it, โwhere the woo meets the workโ.
Iโve had many positive shifts from my vision boards.
Sometimes the link might be clear:
- I wanted to create a new business that worked around homeschool life and I pinned images of home offices. I found a blogging course that same year. Then I started working on my blog, every day in my home office (aka a desk in my bedroom).
Or the link might be more tenuous:
- I kept seeing and writing the word FREEDOM. The following year, we took the plunge into homeschooling and mega freedom. Now we are working towards our second big freedom goal, moving to somewhere with more land.
But manifestation isnโt as simple as thinking positively and dreaming your goals into reality. These things changed for me because my mindset shifted (after a lot of consistent work).
I developed a growth mindset, my beliefs about my potential changed. Thereโs a great article here from Psychology Today which explains the science behind manifestation.
Itโs our intention. Our intention is everything. Nothing happens on this planet without it. Not one single thing has ever been accomplished without intention.โ

Now that weโve sorted that out, letโs get onto the creative part!
How To Make A Vision Board For Manifestation in 5 Simple Steps.
Step 1. Get clear about what you want.
The more clarity you have about what you want, the better you can manifest that into reality. You can do this through spending time in quiet meditation, journaling, observing what daydreams keep popping up. Once you are clear about what you want, spend some time feeling it every day (I will explain this secret hack in a moment).
Step 2. Plan your vision board.
Now itโs time to find inspiration. The important thing to remember is this:
There are no rules to follow!
You can make a digital vision board, buy a vision board kit or create more of a poster board style.
Whatever works for you.
In this blog, I am focusing on a physical vision board, as this is the most powerful way to create a visual representation of your goals. But if you are more drawn to an online board, go for it.
Create a Pinterest board full of vision board ideas and images that align with your vision.
Ideas for collecting your vision board inspiration.
- Gather magazine cut outs. You can pick up magazines in thrift stores or charity shops, ask your friends or neighbors to save old magazines for you or buy them yourself.
- Affirmations. Gather your favorite positive affirmations to write out on your board.
- Holiday brochures.
- A collection of images from your phone.
- Quotes and poems that are inspiring to you.I rarely buy magazines, but I allow myself a few gardening, running and green living magazines when I feel the need to create a new board.
Step 3. Get your supplies together.
You donโt need to spend a lot of money to create your own vision board.
You just need a few simple supplies.
A board to place your material on. This might be a simple poster board or cork board. If you want to get fancy, have a look online for a framed board in your style.
Craft and stationery supplies. Glue, tape, pins, pens, stickers, sparkles, if thatโs your thing.
Your material. Your various images, cut outs, inspirational quotes and words.
Step 4. Build your vision board.
Now you are ready to get creating your board. You need at least an hour to put this together. As a mom, I know time is a lacking commodity, so just do a little over a few days if you need to.
Top tips for vision boarding.
Create the mood. Pick a quiet time (after the kids are fast asleep for me). Switch off your phone and TV. Play a relaxing or inspiring playlist. Light your favorite candle or use a mindful essential oil blend.
Clear some space. If this means pushing the laundry, toys, dog basket to the other side of the room, go for it. Donโt worry about how it looks. This is real life, not Pinterest.
Set your intention. Intention setting is important at all stages of manifestation. I like to do this by:
- taking a few quiet, mindful moments
- writing my intention out in my journal
โI am creating this manifestation board to welcome in my (dream life, new house, become a happy mom, love myself)โฆ you fill in your goalโ.
Experiment with the design and layout.
Hold off on the glue for a moment.
Just place the content on your board without pinning down here. You will want your primary goal to be in a specific area central to the board. If this is a word or single image, then place this in the middle and build your board around it. I like quite a full board, but if you prefer a minimalist look, go with that.
Pin, glue or tape the final version. Once you are happy with the look and feel, start pinning it down. You can keep changing and editing as you go until you are happy.
Step 5. Find a good place for your board.
I like to have my board in my bedroom. Itโs the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night. You want to see it often and without too much distraction around.
The important thing is you engage with it on a daily basis. This might be after meditation, whilst you walk up the stairs, when you first get out of bed, as you are taking a break in your home office. Just make sure you use it, now youโve created it.
All done? Wait, thereโs moreโฆ
Thereโs a secret to creating a vision board that works. And itโs nothing to do with the photos you use or the words on it.
Itโs how you feel.
How you feel when you create it and how you feel when you look at it.
The first step to attracting more of what you want is to focus on all the small things that bring you joy and satisfaction. After listening to hours of Joe Dispenza and Abraham Hicks videos, I have realised Iโve been missing a vital piece of manifestation.
You need to feel it before you achieve it.
This is my extra tip, law of attraction (LOA) hack, whatever you want to call it.
Letโs break it down into 4 steps.
Step 1. Work out what you want.
Step 2. Imagine how you will feel when you achieve that dream.
Step 3. Create the vision board whilst feeling that way.
Step 4. Look at your board and visualize that goal, whilst feeling as if itโs already manifested.
So before you gather glue, (eco) glitter and magazines, try sitting for a quiet moment or meditation and see if you can feel those dreams.
What do they smell, sound, taste like? How do you feel? Energized? Joyful? Happy? Content? Grateful? Dive deep into those feelings and just sit with them for a moment.
Thatโs what you need to call on when you create this vision board with me.
Do you find it difficult to visualize yourself in a different, more positive way? Well, youโre not alone! Donโt give up on manifestation.
I recently learnt this brilliant tip from Mel Robbins about using the power of objectivity. Place someone else in your visualization. Maybe Mel Robbins herself.
She explains it brilliantly in the video below.
I am all about increasing feelings of joy and gratefulness right now, so thatโs what I invite you to do whilst you work on your new board.
โWhat you think, you create. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you become.โ

Other things to consider about a vision board
Should it be digital or physical?
I believe in physical boards. You go through many processes whilst making them with plenty of time to focus on your intention.
Plus, if you position it in the right place, you will see it multiple times a day. Maybe your hallway, kitchen wall or above your desk in the home office.
But there are many people who prefer a digital version. They are quicker to create, donโt require collecting materials and can be easily updated.
Anissa over at the Mama Goes Beyond blog is another homeschooling mom who loves a digital vision board.
Whatโs your preference?
How often should you update your board?
Whenever you feel called to change it. Go through the process again. Journal, work out what you want, set your intention, update your board and donโt forget to focus on how you feel whilst working on your board.
I also like to do a goal-setting vision board at the beginning of the year.
New year goal boards are a great way to clarify what steps you need to work on that coming year. For me, itโs the first step in turning my goal into a plan of action. Itโs a powerful tool for the first month of the year.
A word for moms.
Mumtastic Life is a space for moms (and mums) so I always like to add a special note just for the moms reading. As a mom, you wonโt have the perfect tidy space and masses of quiet time to create your board.

Thatโs just not life right now.
This is how I see it.
Self-care doesnโt need to look Pinterest perfect. You fit it in when you can. I like to call these nuggets of self-care. These nuggets or moments when added up can make a big difference to your wellbeing.
I did my latest vision board over 4 nights, just 30 minutes a night. I had some essential oils on and got into my comfy clothes. That was it. No big effort.
I had been collecting materials for about 4 months but it took a little time to get around to making it.
When you are a momma, whatever works is my motto.
