Meditation Intention Examples. How To Set Intentions To Boost Your Mindful Time.

Woman Meditating At Home Online Class

Iโ€™m a homeschooling mother and like all moms out there, I am very short of time. Thatโ€™s why daily intentions are so important to me.

I have a robust self-care routine.

Itโ€™s kind of necessary for us mothers, but that doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s always easy to fit in. Meditation is a fundamental part of my self-care routine.

Using an intention for your meditations is a great way to boost your mindful time. I like to get the maximum juice out of every act of self-care I partake in.

Setting a meditation intention provides an anchor for your practice, allowing you to be more present during your meditation time.

Maximum benefit from your mindful moments. Thatโ€™s a powerful way to start your day.

Meditation Intention Examples

What is intention setting?

If you meditate, incorporate mindfulness into your life or do a regular yoga practice, I am guessing youโ€™ve heard of intention setting?

In the simplest terms, setting an intention is being clear about what you want to achieve or feel through your action (in this case, meditation).

Itโ€™s similar to a goal, but a goal has a defined outcome in the future (e.g. I want to buy a house with land).

An intention is about energy and how you feel through your daily life experience (e.g. I am working hard to save money for my house with land but enjoying my life as I do it).

They are positive statements to hold like a focal point whilst you meditate or in your day-to-day life.

Do you have to set an intention for meditation?

No. Sometimes I meditate without an intention. I simply want to be still and experience a mindful start to the day.

But sometimes it helps to have clear intentions, such as

  • If you find meditation time challenging. Your intention can be a focus point to come back to.
  • If you are trying to let go of an old habit or some resistance.
  • If you are working on a new belief.

My positive intentions at the moment are line up and let go. I want to live an authentic life (which is not as easy as it sounds) and I want to let go of the need to control the outcome.

What are some examples of intentions to set for your meditation practice?

Letโ€™s take some deep breaths and get started.

How to create a meditation intention.

The first step is to self-reflect and work out what you want from your meditation intention.

How do you do this?

Journal it out.

Go on a writing exercise to create your own powerful intention. Journaling is another regular self-care activity for me. Itโ€™s amazing what you can discover when you put pen to paper.

Ask yourself some questions:

  • What is the most important thing to you right now?
  • Why do you want to commit to a daily practice of meditation?
  • How do you want to feel as you move through life?

How to use the power of intention during your meditation?

  1. Find a quiet, calm space.
  2. Sit in a comfortable seated position (grab a meditation cushion if you need one).
  3. Take a few deep breaths in and out.
  4. Close your eyes.
  5. Say your intention out loud or in your head.
  6. Do your meditation (this can be as short as 5 minutes or as long as 60 minutes or more).
  7. When thoughts come into your head (the to-do list, a past argument, the dinner options), come back to your intention.
